As per official sources, on Tuesday, US president JOE BIDDEN nominates a Pakistan-origin legal scholar and big tech critic, Leena Khan as Top federal regulator.
According to news, Leena Khan was born in London to Pakistani parents who emigrated to the United States when she was 11. She has recently taught Law at Columbia University and was a prominent and energetic critic at technological companies.
“Khan has a strong career in persuading the American left of her proposed reforms to antitrust law,” Carl Szabo, vice president and general counsel at Net Choice said.
“With Chair Khan at the helm, we have a huge opportunity to make big, structural change by reviving antitrust enforcement and fighting monopolies that threaten our economy, our society, and our democracy,” US Senator Elizabeth Warren said about the selection of Ms. Khan as a Head of FTC.
The selection of Pakistan-origin legal scholar Lina Khan to head the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seen as implying a hard stance towards tech giants Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Apple. Khan took the oath as FTC chair just hours after the Senate confirmed her as one of five members of the commission on a 69-28 vote.
“It is a tremendous honor to have been selected by President Biden to lead the Federal Trade Commission,” Khan said in a statement. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to protect the public from corporate abuse.”
